“I’m sweet and loving. Please find me a new home.”
Earlier this month, a staff member at the Pennsylvania SPCA (PSPCA) stumbled on someone small abandoned outside the shelter doors. Unable to speak for himself, the lonely cat peered desperately up at his rescuer. A note in the box shed some light on his story.
“Hi, my name is Felix,” the note read. “My mom can no longer afford me! I’m sweet and loving. Please find me a new home. Thank you so much.”

The staff member took Felix inside and found that he suffered from a wound on one of his front legs. They made a plan to get Felix the help he needed and reflected on his difficult situation.
“We were heartbroken that he was left outside in the cold all alone,” a representative from the PSPCA told The Dodo. “But we were also heartbroken for the owner, who felt this was their only option.”
Unfortunately, Felix isn’t the only pet who’s been left outside the PSPCA.
“Sadly, we do find a handful of animals a year abandoned at our shelter,” the representative said. “Sometimes they have notes, other times they don’t have anything with them. We urge the public to reach out to us if they are having trouble caring for their pet. We offer low-cost veterinary care, community outreach programs and other pet retention services to help keep pets in their homes.”
Despite his circumstances, brave little Felix slowly acclimated to shelter life. His resilience tugged at his rescuers’ heartstrings.
“Felix was understandably nervous when he first came in, but you could tell he desperately wanted to trust,” the representative said. “Even though he was hesitant of us at first, he still made soft little biscuits when we would talk to him.”
Rescuers know that Felix won’t have any trouble finding the family he deserves.
“Felix could live in most homes,” the representative said. “He is very affectionate and playful. He definitely hasn’t let his past define him.”
