Four LMB Teams To Meet In Preseason Action In Nayarit; DR’s Socrates Brito Signs With Veracruz

The new ballpark in the Santa Teresita neighborhood of Tepic, Nayarit, Mexico, will host preseason action in the Liga Mexicana de Beisbol in late March.

According to a report from BeisbolPuro on X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, four teams — the Caliente de Durango, Rieleros de Aguascalientes, Bravos de León, and Conspiradores de Querétaro — will meet at Estadio Santa Teresita, also known as El Coloso del Pacifico, for preseason games from March 27 to 30.

In addition to those games, the Pericos de Puebla and El Aguila de Veracruz will travel to Tepic for a three-game preseason series at Estadio Santa Teresita from April 4 to 6.

Estadio Santa Teresita opened in the fall of 2024 and hosted five games during Group Play of the 2024 WBSC Premier12, splitting hosting duties with Estadio Panamericano in Guadalajara.

Socrates Brito Signs With El Aguila de Veracruz – After spending the last three summers in South Korea, Socrates Brito will play the 2025 season with El Aguila de Veracruz in Mexico.

Brito, who appeared in 99 MLB games with Arizona and Toronto between 2015 and 2019, played 409 games in South Korea’s KBO, patrolling the outfield for the Kia Tigers each of the last three years, batting .302/.352/.491 with a .843 OPS, 63 homers and 270 RBIs.

He returned to his native Dominican Republic to play for the Estrellas Orientales last winter, notching six hits in 18 at-bats over five regular-season games. He was a key component of the Dominican Republic team that won the 2025 Caribbean Series, batting .417/.464/.458 with a .923 OPS and three RBIs.

Brito could be an upgrade for Veracruz over former MLB star Yasiel Puig, who hit 18 homers and drove in 43 runs for Veracruz in 64 games last summer and elected to return to South Korea with the KBO’s Kiwoom Heroes for 2025.

Starters Cory Abbott, Andrew Vasquez Headed To Dos Laredos – The Tecolotes de los Dos Laredos have signed a pair of former Major Leaguer pitchers for 2025.

Cory Abbott, 28, has appeared in Major League Baseball over parts of three seasons with the Chicago Cubs and Washington Nationals. He made 45 appearances between 2021 and 23 and posted a career 6.02 ERA over 104 2/3 innings of work. He split the 2024 season between Triple-A Tacoma in the Seattle Mariners organization and Triple-A Charlotte in the Chicago White Sox chain, posting a 5.93 ERA over 74 1/3 innings across 45 appearances, making 10 starts.

His best year as a professional came in 2019 when he was the Pitcher of the Year in the Cubs’ organization. He led the Double-A Southern League in innings pitched with 146 2/3 and strikeouts with 166, making 26 starts with a 3.01 ERA.

Andrew Vasquez, 31, made 64 appearances in the Major Leagues with the Minnesota Twins, Los Angeles Dodgers, Toronto Blue Jays, San Francisco Giants, Philadelphia Phillies, and Detroit Tigers, posting a 4.24 ERA over 63 2/3 innings. He made 48 appearances with Triple-A Toledo in 2024, throwing 68 2/3 innings, all in relief, with 63 strikeouts and a 5.11 ERA.

Caliente de Durango Lock Up Daniel Johnson – Outfielder Daniel Johnson, who appeared in one game in 2024 for the Baltimore Orioles and hit .259 in 118 games with Triple-A Norfolk, is headed to Durango for 2025. Johnson hit 21 homers and drove in 76 runs for Norfolk last season and will add power to the Caliente lineup, though he struck out 129 times in 451 at-bats.
