Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds ask judge to dismiss Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit as first court appearance set

Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds are seeking to have Justin Baldoni’s £320 million countersuit dismissed.

As you’re likely aware, It Ends With Us co-stars Lively and Baldoni are currently locked in a complex legal battle over their time making the film.

Following a noticeably frosty promotional period in August, Gossip Girl star Lively filed her first lawsuit against Baldoni in December 2024.

The actor and director then fired back the following month, by filing a countersuit against Lively, her husband Reynolds and their publicist.

Both Lively and Baldoni have denied the allegations made against them.

In a major update to the never-ending saga, Lively and Reynolds’ team will ask a judge to have Baldoni’s defamation suit against them dismissed.

Attorneys for both parties are scheduled to make their first appearance in court tomorrow (3 February) for a hearing – a trial is currently set for March 2026 – with Lively’s team filing a notice for dismissal last week.

According to a report from Variety, attorneys for the Lively/Reynolds camp filed the notice on Thursday (30 January).

New York Judge Lewis Liman had asked for a letter which would ‘indicate in one sentence the Defendant’s intent to make a motion to dismiss’.

The couple’s lawyer Michael J Gottlieb has since confirmed the update, telling the outlet in a statement: “The Lively-Reynolds Parties intend to move to dismiss Plaintiffs’ complaint.”

Leslie Sloane, the publicist named in Baldoni’s lawsuit, filed a similar motion on the Wednesday.

Another major trial update has seen Baldoni’s team launch a website which they claim includes evidence to support their lawsuit, such as text messages sent between the parties and a ‘timeline of events’.

What information does Justin Baldoni’s website include?

Yesterday (1 February), Baldoni’s team published a website titled ‘Lawsuit info’ which features links to an amended complaints as well as an alleged ‘timeline of events’.

The website also includes allegations such as discussions between Lively and Baldoni to rework the pivotal rooftop scene between their characters, as well as allegations that Lively and Reynolds demanded Baldoni publicly take responsibility for the negative press against the 37-year-old actress.

The statement they wrote for Baldoni reads in part: “It Ends With Us was a troubled production which we take full accountability for. Blake Lively, Colleen Hoover, the entire cast and crew led with professionalism every step of the way, any negativity aimed at them is ours to own.

“We have always said we are not perfect and even if [we] unintentionally make mistakes, we always own them.”

New leaked texts from Justin Baldoni’s website

The website also contains texts allegedly sent between Baldoni and Reynolds where the Deadpool actor appears to show his intent to be ‘friends’ with Baldoni.

“You’ve hit the jackpot with B,” one message reads. “She literally passes on every film and every filmmaker all the time. I’m excited for Blake to crack open her creative piggy bank with someone as dynamic as you. This is gonna be INCREDIBLE.

“Looking forward to seeing you. And thank you again for all you’re doing. I happen to adore you, Justin xo.”

Blake Lively’s team on Baldoni’s website

The website has long been threatened by Baldoni’s legal team. Lively’s lawyer Michael Gottleib told the Daily Mail of their plans: “The planned website will release what Mr. Freedman self-servingly proclaims will be ‘full unedited WhatsApp, text and email exchanges between Lively and Baldoni,’ although neither the media nor public will have any way of knowing which communications Mr. Freedman has selectively omitted from disclosure, including communications that Mr. Freedman and his clients may have deleted.”

LADbible Group previously contacted representatives for Lively and Reynolds for comment.

Justin Baldoni’s wife Emily has spoken out for the first time since he became embroiled in lawsuits.

Back in December, the It Ends with Us actor and director was sued by his co-star, Blake Lively, who accused him of sexual harassment and attempting to launch a smear campaign against her.

His team then filed on his behalf earlier this month, claiming defamation against the actor and her husband, Ryan ReynoldsBaldoni’s attorney claims Lively and her team took certain measures to gain control over the film.

He has slammed the star’s claims against him as ‘categorically false’ while her team called his lawsuit ‘another chapter in the abuser playbook’.

Throughout this period of back-and-forth between the stars, Emily has not released a statement but posted a tribute to her husband for his 41st birthday yesterday (24 January).

The mum-of-two rarely posts on Instagram but shared a snap of the family by the sea, sharing a kiss with Baldoni.

Showing total support for her husband, she wrote in the caption: “Happy birthday my love. Celebrating the man, husband, and father that you are. I’d choose you again and again.”

Emily can be seen in images shared by Baldoni’s team in the filing, alleging he and his guests were forced to wait in a ‘holding area’ during an It Ends With Us premiere event.

Cited in these court documents, photos show the couple alongside friends and family,

sat at a table in a room that appears to be a basement, if not some kind of back room.

The group are smiling for the camera with boxes of popcorn as another snap shows them with crates of water and cola bottles. Baldoni can be seen wearing the same pink suit he had worn on the red carpet that day.

In the filing, it’s alleged his guests were ‘ushered’ inside the movie premiere before being ‘held’ in this room to ‘avoid even a chance of interaction with Lively or her guests’ when she arrived.

Baldoni’s lawsuit also alleges his co-star used ‘threats and extortion’ to ‘relegate’ her colleagues.

It said: “They were confined to a makeshift holding area surrounded by concession stand stock, with only fold-out tables and chairs arranged in a square.

“Surrounded by close friends, family, soda bottles, and a lot of love, the irony of being held in a basement on what was arguably one of the most important nights of Baldoni’s career thus far, was not lost on anyone.”

Lively’s lawyers said the suit is an attempt ‘to turn the tables on the victim’, while Baldoni’s legal team have maintained it is ‘based on an overwhelming amount of untampered evidence’.

A judge has scheduled a trial date for Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s lawsuits.

Lively, 37, has filed two lawsuits against It Ends with Us director and actor Baldoni, 41, claiming she was the victim of a campaign of ‘social manipulation’ and that Baldoni allegedly engaged in inappropriate behaviour on set of the film.

Baldoni and his production company Wayfarer Studios, among others, have countersued with a £326 million lawsuit against Lively, Ryan Reynolds, and others for damages, including defamation and lost future income.

Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s lawsuits explained

Lively filed her first lawsuit against Baldoni, producer Jamey Heath, Baldoni’s publicist Jennifer Abel, and others in December 2024, claiming he sexually harassed her on set and then issued a smear campaign after she spoke up.

Earlier this month, she filed a second lawsuit alleging Baldoni engaged in inappropriate behaviour, which included a scene where their characters performed a slow dance.

Footage of the scene has since been made available to the public, which can be viewed above.

The It Ends with Us director and actor has countersued Lively and her husband Reynolds for £326 million.

Baldoni has accused Lively and her husband of hijacking the production and promotion of the film.

It has also been claimed that Lively made false allegations of sexual and other harassment against Baldoni, dubbed as a ‘smear campaign’.

When will Blake Lively and Justin Baldoni’s lawsuit go to trial?

Judge Lewis J. Liman has said the trial will take place on 9 March, 2026, as reported by People.

A set pre-trial hearing regarding Lively’s prospective request for a gag order has been brought forward, scheduled for 3 February.

LA attorney Gregory Doll, who is not involved in the case, predicts that the trial will not be televised.

“By filing in federal court, they foreclosed the possibility that there will be any cameras in the proceedings,” the partner at Doll Amir & Eley, told People.

As we await the start of the trial, the legal battle between the pair seems to be getting more intense by the week, with alleged text messages having been recently leaked.

Text messages Justin Baldoni says prove he’s been defamed

In the lawsuit, which has been seen by LADbible, Baldoni and his team has provided nine alleged text messages he claims prove that he has been defamed by his co-star.

“How can we say somehow that we are not doing any of this – it looks like we are trying to take her down,” Baldoni allegedly sent to his team as stories of harassment started to surface.

“Ok please monitor,” he added.

“Things I’m more worried about is that we are planting these stories which is not true obviously.”

Also, Lively was said to have messaged him on 2 June, 2023: “I’m just pumping in my trailer if you wanna work out our lines.”

Baldoni replied: “Copy, eating with crew and will head that way.”

In another exchange, the director text her: “Just hired intimacy coordinator who I LOVE. Will set you up to meet/FT with her next week for intro (thumbs up).”

Lively responded: “I feel good. I can meet her when we start 🙂 thank you though.”

This alleged exchange was included to counter claims from Lively that Baldoni would ‘improvise’ intimacy on set.

Meanwhile, Lively’s lawyers called Baldoni’s lawsuit ‘another chapter in the abuser playbook’.

“This is an age-old story: A woman speaks up with concrete evidence of sexual harassment and retaliation and the abuser attempts to turn the tables on the victim,” they said.

The alleged voice note from April 2023 sees Justin Baldoni apologise to Blake Lively

Justin Baldoni is heard apologising to Blake Lively in an alleged voice note sent during the production of It Ends With Us.

The director and actor, 41, was said to have questioned changes Lively made to a rooftop scene, where the characters meet initially meet.

This was reportedly months before the pair filed lawsuits against one another.

Across the two lawsuits, Lively claimed he sexually harassed her on set and then issued a smear campaign after she spoke up.

Baldoni has denied the allegations and has countersued with a £326 million lawsuit for damages, including defamation and lost future income.

In his lawsuit, Baldoni claims he was forced to accept a revised version of the rooftop scene allegedly written by Lively, who later said it was written by her husband Ryan Reynolds, also named in the suit.

This was reportedly due to the fact that Lively is good friends with Taylor Swift, whose song was used in the scene, and he didn’t want to upset her.

“I want to start with an apology. Reading the second part of your message. My heart sank and I’m really sorry. I for sure fell short,” the director allegedly said in the April 2023 voice note at 2am.

“I just wanted to say thank you for sharing that with me.

“That takes a lot of trust and vulnerability. And I just I feel really grateful that you feel safe enough to tell me that that’s how you feel and share that with me.”

He allegedly continued to apologise, calling it ‘a fail on my part’.

“One thing you should know about me is I will admit and apologise when I fail. I am far from perfect. I am a very flawed man. As my wife will attest,” Baldoni allegedly added.

“I’m going to f**k up. I’m going say the wrong thing. I’m going to put my foot in my mouth. I’m going to p**s you off, probably. But I will always apologise and then find my way back to centre. That is one thing I can assure you of.”

Addressing Lively’s supposed response to Baldoni’s reaction when he saw the rewrites, he allegedly said: “I’m sorry I made you feel that way.

“That must have felt terrible. And I will for sure do better. That was not my best weekend. And I should have given it more time.”

“Aside from the fact that the two of the most creative people on the planet, the three of you guys together, it’s unbelievable. Talk about energy force, all three of you,” Baldoni supposedly said, a nod to her husband and Swift.

“You and I have been trying to build a relationship which I think we’ve done successfully. Here we are talking together at 2am in the morning. But largely via text and voicemail and I will admit, that’s not my biggest strength.”

The voice note then goes on, hearing Baldoni allegedly add: “I love being with people and being in somebody’s space and being face-to-face and I think that’s where I excel. But I’ve definitely fallen short at times in our texts and voicemail exchanges because there’s so much to communicate and so much happening.

“All I have to say is I’m really looking forward to spending time together and I believe that’s going to go a long way for our chemistry, which I believe is there. It’s been there from the start so I was so damn excited when you agreed to do this film. I believe it comes from us both being so hard working and having a vision.

“I’m excited to have a creative partner in that with you.”

“Then, when Lively and Reynolds’ efforts failed to win them the acclaim they believed they so richly deserved, they turned their fury on their chosen scapegoat.”

Damages include control and extortion, defamation and false allegations, marketing conflicts, professional and personal damages, collaborative breakdown and false narrative and media manipulation.

“Hey, Blake. It is two in the morning. Hopefully this does not wake you up. Wow, there’s so much I want to say to you, and I hope that we can FaceTime or see each other in person soon and get to talk more, but I’m just going to send you a few thoughts, and hopefully it’s not going to be more than a few minutes, but that I don’t have the best track record. I don’t think either one of us have the best track record for voice memos

“I want to start with an apology. Man, I… reading the second part of your message, my heart sank, and I’m really sorry. I for sure fell short, and you worked really hard on that, and the way you framed it, and how that made you feel. I just want to say thank you for sharing that with me. “And damn, right, you got great friends, if that’s how you felt, and they knew that. And we should all have friends like that, aside from the fact that they’re two of the most creative people on the planet. The three of you guys together. It’s unbelievable. Talk about energy, just to force of all three of you.

“But I just wanted you to know that I didn’t need that, because it’s really good and it’s gonna make the movie sing, like you said, and I’m excited to go through the whole movie with you. I’m just excited to spend time with you. I’m excited to be in your sphere and your presence, and for us to share creative juices together. Although that sounds terrible.

“I think you and I have been trying to build a relationship, which I think we’ve done successfully. I mean, here we are talking like this, me into my phone at two in the morning, but largely via text and voice note. I will be honest with you, that is not my biggest strength. I love being with people and being in somebody’s space and being face-to-face, and I feel like that’s where I excel, and definitely fallen short at times in our text and voice note exchanges, because there’s so much to communicate and there’s so much happening.

“All that’s to say, I’m just really looking forward to spending time together, and I think that’s going to really go a long way for our chemistry, which I believe is there and has been there from the start. So I was so damn excited when you wanted to do this film. I felt it in the room when we met. Yeah, I think it does come from the both of us being so f**king hard working and having a vision and not settling. And I’m excited to have a creative partner in that with you. And it’s just really exciting.

“There’s so much more to say. There’s so much I want to say. Oh, and there’s one thing that I do need to say, which is, I am so sorry you have been through what you’ve been through with these other filmmakers and producers or whoever the people were that you worked with. It just pissed me off. I’m just still kind of blown away, that this is the industry that we’re in, that you’ve experienced that as a woman. I know I don’t need to say it, but that’s not at all going to be or will be… hopefully it’s not been the experience with me.

“There’s nothing more exciting to me. I get to work with Blake Lively and have her, all of her, that’s what I want. And so there’s been no hesitancy with me sending you the final draft file. I am totally fine with that. The only reason I didn’t send it today was because I was trying to implement and add your notes into my working draft, which is already like, I’m all over that draft right now.

“So there’s a whole bunch of new stars that are going to be collated pages. I just haven’t had a chance to send it to you, but there’s no hesitancy. I’m happy to send it to you and I’m sorry that that has happened to you before and, and I hope after this experience, there will be a new… I hope it’ll be healing in some way. That’s all I want. I want this movie to be healing. I want this movie to be commercial just like you, and affect people and touch people. And I want to walk you through my whole plan and the work that we’re doing with the domestic violence partner that we found NO MORE and just my vision, and I just, I just know that this can be really, really special, and it’s going to be special, and you’re the secret sauce, and we’re the secret sauce.

“Anyways, I have so much more to say. I’m going to stop rambling, because, Jesus Christ, it’s been six minutes and 30 seconds. I’m sorry, you probably have kids all over you and a baby on your boob, and you’re listening to me ramble at two in the morning. I hope you’re feeling better and give Ryan my love thank you for sending me that, means the world to me, that you trust me with your feelings and your thoughts like that, and I can’t wait to spend more time with you. Okay, I’m done cutting myself off. Good night.”

Justin Baldoni has made a string of shocking allegations against the Deadpool actor

Olivia Burke

Ryan Reynolds has been thrust back into the centre of the It Ends With Us drama after behind-the-scenes footage was released.

It turns out that the Deadpool star, 48, was a prominent topic of conversation between his wife Blake Lively and her co-star Justin Baldoni as they filmed an affectionate slow-dance scene.

As well as sharing their ideas about how to improve the shot, cracking an awkward nose joke and having a chat about the smell of a spray tan, the warring pair talked about Reynolds.

Baldoni, who directed as well as starred in It Ends With Us, was heard conversing with Lively about her 14-year relationship with The Proposal actor.

Both Baldoni and Lively have referenced shooting the slow dancing scene in their respective lawsuits, although they both have very different perspectives on what the video shows.

The pair have been locked in a legal battle since December – after the Gossip Girl star accused him of sexual harassment and organising an alleged ‘social manipulation’ campaign against her.

Baldoni branded the claims ‘categorically false’ and filed a $250 million suit against The New York Times due to an article they shared regarding the allegations.

The Jane the Virgin actor then sued Lively, her publicist, and her husband Ryan Reynolds for $400 million, accusing them of civil extortion, defamation, false light invasion of privacy, breach of implied covenant of good faith and fair dealing, among other damning claims.

He has made a series of shocking allegations in the 179-page document which has been filed on behalf of him, his production company Wayfarer Studios and others.

A lot of these are regarding the behaviour of Reynolds while It Ends With Us was being filmed, from mid 2023 to early 2024.

Here’s the full rundown on everything which Baldoni has alleged about Lively’s husband.

Reynolds’ alleged expletive-ridden rant

In Lively’s explosive lawsuit, she alleged that she felt ‘fat-shamed’ by Baldoni on set as she claims her co-star regularly criticised her ‘body and weight’.

However, the filmmaker, 41, has branded these allegations ‘entirely and categorically false’, while suggesting that Reynolds drastically overreacted to them when he got wind of it.

Baldoni admits he did ask his personal trainer, who Lively introduced him to, what his co-star weighed – but insists this was because he had a history of back problems and didn’t want to injure himself during a dancing lift scene in the movie.

His lawsuit claims: “Still during the pre-production phase, Lively and Reynolds raised entirely false allegations of fat-shaming against Baldoni: an accusation that, as evidence will show, was categorically false.

“Baldoni was summoned to the penthouse by Lively and greeted by Reynolds, who swore at Baldoni and accused him of fat-shaming his wife (‘How dare you f***ing ask about my wife’s weight? What’s wrong with you?”).

“The confrontation from Reynolds and Lively was so aggressive that Baldoni felt he had no choice but to offer repeated (and completely unwarranted) apologies for what was a good faith and reasonable question to ask of his trainer.”

‘Aggressive tirade’

During a break in filming, it’s alleged that Lively revealed her concerns about the ‘hostile’ circumstances on set in a meeting, while sharing her list of requirements for returning to work.

She reportedly reeled off 30 demands which must be met before she committed to finishing the film.

Lively is said to have brought Reynolds along as her chosen ‘representative’ – but according to Baldoni’s lawsuit, the Two Guys and a Girl actor ‘launched into an aggressive tirade’ during the sitdown.

It states: “Reynolds and Lively blindsided the rest of the group with a list of grievances, read aloud by Lively, that were as troubling as they were fictional.

“Reynolds then launched into an aggressive tirade, berating Baldoni in what Baldoni later described as a ‘traumatic’ encounter. As Baldoni later said, he had never been spoken to like that in his life.”

Reynolds’ alleged tampering with talent agency

According to Baldoni, his co-star’s husband tried to meddle with his career as tensions continued to rise.

The actor has alleged that Reynolds contacted his talent agency, William Morris Endeavor (WME), to discuss his ‘deep disdain’ for him.

The lawsuit claims that Reynolds suggested that the firm should stop working with Baldoni, while making bold claims about his alleged behaviour towards Lively.

It is alleged that this conversation took place ‘during the premiere of Deadpool & Wolverine.

The lawsuit continued: “Reynolds approached Baldoni’s agency, namely, an executive at WME, and expressed his deep disdain for Baldoni, suggesting the agency was working with a ‘sexual predator’ (a phrase that uncoincidentally later appeared in the press) and, at a later date, demanded that the agent ‘drop’ Baldoni.”

Staff cull

Lively allegedly got rid of editors and a composer that Baldoni had hired and replaced them with people who had worked on Deadpool, according to the lawsuit.

Rob Simonsen is currently credited as one of the It Ends With Ucomposers and he worked with Reynolds on the 2024 superhero film which also starred Hugh Jackman.

Baldoni’s lawsuit claims that Lively shook up the staff working on set in favour of hiring people who regularly collaborated with her partner.

“Ultimately, Lively replaced the Film’s editors with her own choice: an editor often used by Reynolds, and the Film’s editors had to be let go,” the legal documents state.

“She also replaced the Film’s award-winning composer with composers from Reynolds’ recent project – even though the Film’s composer had already finished the score, with an orchestra (which is costly).”

Peer pressure

In one of the most bizarre revelations from the lawsuit, Lively is alleged to have compared herself to Game of Thrones character Daenerys Targaryen, boasting that she is protected by her ‘dragons’.

Baldoni claims that his co-star had sent him a rewritten version of the rooftop scene and that he then expressed ‘extremely mild resistance’ to the suggested tweaks.

However, Lively was alleged to have been left ‘seemingly stung’ by his response and roped in Reynolds and a ‘mega-celebrity friend’ to help change his mind.

The lawsuit states: “Hours later, as the meeting was ending, a famous, and famously close, friend of Reynolds and Lively, walked into the room and similarly began praising Lively’s script.

“Baldoni understood the subtext: he needed to comply with Lively’s direction for the script.”

He later text Lively explaining he had ‘liked’ her notes on the scene and that he didn’t need ‘Reynolds and her megacelebrity friend to pressure him’, prompting Lively to send the GOT text.

‘Unauthorised’ script changes

Although Lively supposedly claimed she had rewritten the scene, the actress later said that her husband was responsible for it.

At the New York premiere for It Ends With Us, almost a year after the sit down, she said of the rooftop scene: “My husband actually wrote it. Nobody knows that but you now.

“We help each other. He works on everything I do; I work on everything he does. So his wins, his celebrations are mine and mine are his.”

Discussing this in the lawsuit, Baldoni claims that this came as a ‘startling revelation’ to the team working on the movie.

The legal documents claim that her admission ‘directly contradicted Lively’s previous insistence that she had written the scene – and certainly casts Reynolds’ high praise for the rewritten scene in a different light’.

It continued: “The film’s credited screenwriter, when asked about the claim that Reynolds had written the scene, graciously responded, ‘So if I’m being told that Ryan wrote that, then great, how wonderful’.

“She went on to acknowledge, ‘There were a few little flourishes that I did not write…and if those flourishes came from Ryan, I think that’s wonderful’.

“This was also the first time that Plaintiffs learned that Reynolds—who had no formal role whatsoever in the Film’s production—had made unauthorised changes to the script in secret.

“Baldoni, equally blindsided by this news, which he discovered in real time during a recorded interview with Access Hollywood, reacted by also praising Reynolds, so as not to harm Lively, Reynolds (who apparently wrote the scene, and possibly others, during the WGA strike), or the Film.”

Lively ‘copied’ Reynolds’ Deadpool approach

As Deadpool fans may be aware, Tim Miller who directed the first film in the franchise, did not return to work on the sequel.

Baldoni’s lawyer Bryan Freedman sent a notice to Reynolds and Lively asking them to ‘preserve all relevant documents and data’ in relation to Miller’s departure on 7 January.

It was rumoured to have stemmed from ‘creative differences’ that he had with Reynolds – and according to Baldoni, Lively wanted to follow in her partner’s footsteps.

The lawsuit said: “Lively may have felt driven to match her star husband Ryan Reynolds, who is widely reported to have insisted on taking so much control over the Film “Deadpool 2” that the director, Tim Miller, left the production.

“Seeing the fame and success that Reynolds commanded, she may have adopted his oft-repeated pattern wholesale to seize her own power and control.

“Following his lead, and evidenced by many statements by Lively that he is involved in every project she works on and vice versa, Lively and Reynolds, accustomed to getting their way, perhaps felt entitled.”

Public apology demands

Lively and Reynolds allegedly demanded that Baldoni issue a public apology to them both as they navigated an ‘avalanche of negative media coverage’.

The lawsuit claims that the couple ‘drafted’ up a statement for the star to use and that they made the request via their talent agency WME, which also represented Baldoni before he was later dropped.

“Reynolds and Lively drafted a statement and demanded that Baldoni, Wayfarer, and Heath issue that statement, requiring them to apologize to the public and fall on their sword, despite having done nothing wrong – or else the ‘gloves would come off,” the lawsuit alleges.

“Multiple WME executives acknowledged that in their experience, Lively and Reynolds’ threats were not to be taken lightly, though admitting to false, vague, and unspecified ‘mistakes’ would be tantamount to admitting to career-ending misconduct. Baldoni, Wayfarer, and Heath refused to apologise for sins they had never committed.

“They took a stand, knowing full well that Lively and Reynolds would bring the full might of their celebrity artillery against them. And that is precisely what happened.”

LADbible has previously contacted Baldoni’s, Lively’s and Reynolds’ representatives for comment.
