The hit series also has an impressive score of 93% on Rotten Tomatoes and 8.5/10 on IMDb.

Critics also share the same enthusiasm.

Emily Ashby wrote for Common Sense Media: “The show is never lacking action, adventure, romance, intrigue, and suspense, making it an extraordinarily enjoyable watch.”

Under the Radar‘s Zach Hollwedel said: “The show never suffers even a single dull moment.”

Emily St. James reviewed for AV Club: “It’s endlessly entertaining, and the world it evokes ends up being one of the most instantly compelling on television.”

The historical action, created and written by Michael Hirst, aired for six seasons and stars an impressive cast including Travis Fimmel, Gustaf Skarsgård, Alexander Ludwig, and Alex Høgh Andersen.

Based on Norse sagas, the brutal series combines mythology, history, and legend to tell the tales of Vikings, gods, and heroes, written in the 13th and 14th centuries.

Its synopsis reads: “This gritty drama charts the exploits of Viking hero Ragnar Lothbrok as he extends the Norse reach by challenging an unfit leader who lacks vision.”

With bloodcurdling battle scenes and a realistic portrayal of Viking culture, raids, and their exploration, it makes for a thrilling watch.

Show creator Hirst believes Vikings is such a compelling story due to its authentic Ness as there’s real fighting, realistic sets, and little special effects.

He told Sky History: “We use visual effects very sparingly. It’s not Game of Thrones where everything is a visual effect. These characters fight for real. They row boats, they climb cliffs, they get bruised and they bleed. We do things as authentically as we can.”

Although Vikings was a global success, Hirst decided to end the show after six seasons – which is earlier than some fans would have liked.

The show’s creator explained to Collider: “I needed to wrap it up.

“I needed to conclude these last storylines in ways that would be satisfactory and satisfying to an audience. I didn’t want to cheat anyone. I didn’t want to cheat the actors, the characters, or the audience.”
