A flight attendant has revealed how one simple mistake could land you with a lifetime ban from flying.

From smoking, to not putting our phones on airplane mode, or being disruptive in the cabin, we all know there are certain things that are unacceptable while travelling on a plane.

But according to flight attendant Skye Taylor, there’s one behaviour that could lead to an outright ban for life.

Skye, 49, from Southampton – who goes by slkye_taylor_xx on TikTok – has spent 17 years working in the air.

Up until a year ago, she worked for a number of different airlines, including Virgin Atlantic, but has since stepped away from flying.

Speaking to the Mail Online, Skye explained that she’s recently noticed more and more influencers on social media, posting ‘horrifying’ content while travelling, in order to get views and likes.

In one video, she noticed an influencer standing dangerously close to the plane’s engines.

“An influencer stepped over the markings [on the runway], the safety area, and everyone was like ‘oh wow, that’s incredible’,” she said.

“But she was right near the engine, it was ridiculous.”

Skye explained she’d also seen another influencer writing a message on the bathroom window, which she said was a huge security risk and could even lead to a lifetime flying ban.

“In another video an influencer was like writing on the mirror or something in the bathroom – and I was just like that could end up as a massive security risk,” she said.

“Because it has been known that messages have been left for, you know [dangerous people] and I think a lot of the time people, I don’t want to say it because I’m old, but it’s like a younger generation thing.

“I think sense goes out the window. It’s safety at the end of the day, something could happen to you or you could put that aircraft in danger, and I’ve seen it a lot.”

Skye explained that although it seems innocent, it’s incredibly serious and has to be reported to the police due to the associated security risk.

“Doing that to get views, that’s ridiculous,” she said.

“It’s crazy, plus you’ll probably get a lifetime ban from flying as well.

“We have to report that straight away and it doesn’t matter [what the message says] because they’ll [police] decode things differently to us.

“The police or the aviation authority will look at things differently to say, the normal person.”

Flight attendant issues warning over popular plane outfit choice that 'makes her feel sick'

Flight attendant issues warning over popular plane outfit choice that ‘makes her feel sick’

Sometimes you just want to be comfortable when flying, but one flight attendant has revealed a lot of judging goes on based on your fit

Jen Thomas

Whether you’re planning some last-minute winter sun or already eyeing up next year’s summer holiday, you might want to think twice about what you wear for the flight.

We all get it, it’s nice to be comfy especially when flying long-haul or cramming yourself into the cheapest seat possible with your knees around your ears.

One flight attendant has revealed that one popular outfit in particular gives her the ick, so you might want to cross this one off your list.

They say you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but this flight attendant in particular is absolutely judging you by your outfit.

And it’s not just about covering up, either.

What you wear might have you being judged by the flight attendant. (

Flight attendant Cher Killough hails from Texas, and she’s shared a TikTok about what your personal style tells her and her colleagues.

So, if you see the staff looking you up and down as you board, just know that an assumption is being made about you thanks to what you’ve chosen to wear that day.

She shared a video titled: “What I’m assuming about you based on the outfit that you’re wearing on the plane, coming from a five-year flight attendant”.

Be warned: she doesn’t hold back, and your favourite fit might just be in here.

If you’re a fan of Lululemon, Cher and her colleagues will be checking for a sizeable rock on your left hand.

She showed a Scuba top, saying the wearer is either ‘a middle schooler’ or dating someone with money.

Cher advises: “Ladies, if you’re single, get you one of these, because I swear this girl always has a massive rock on her finger!”

The top retails between £84 to £108.

A sundress and sandals might seem like a sensible choice, but apparently it’s a uniform for ‘organic moms’.

The flight attendant insists the wearer is ‘always a mom that has organic snacks in her bag – you know her pantry is always stocked and she’s as crunchy as can be.’

Surely it’s common knowledge not to wear a jumpsuit on a plane? After all, who wants to strip right down every time you need to use the facilities, as we all know how brutal air-con can be on board.

Cher says: “If you’re wearing a lounge romper, I’m assuming that you did not think this through because that top is going to be on the pee-soaked floor of the lavatory.”

Lovely, and so fragrant for your fellow passengers.

Super short shorts are also a big no, and not for the reason you might think.

Rather than for being risque, Cher says it’s for hygiene concerns: “If you’re wearing denim shorts or bike shorts, I’m assuming that you do not realize how many diapers get changed on those seats and you probably wouldn’t care anyway.”

Joggers are a popular choice for flying in comfort, but the style you opt for tells them a lot about you: “Wide-leg sweatpants are always accompanied by the Louis Vuitton Neverfull or the Goyard bag, and you very much are that girl,” she advises.

If you prefer a more fitted style though, Cher says: “Cuff sweatpants, you just care about comfort, and that’s okay!”

TikTok viewers rushed to the comment section to share their thoughts: “Pants and closed toe shoes ALWAYS,” insisted one.

Another agreed with Cher’s thoughts about the luxury life: “Wide leg sweatpants and I have a Goyard”

However, one style icon insisted you should go above and beyond: “I always get fully dressed. That aisle is a damn runway.”

Flight attendant reveals the one common plane habit she says should 'be illegal'

Flight attendant reveals the one common plane habit she says should ‘be illegal’

She spoke about the three things that should be banned on flights, but one stands above the rest as the worst

Joshua Nair

If there’s something that the majority of people agree with, it’s pet peeves on flights.

One of the worst things you can experience when you’re on a long-haul flight is someone inconsiderate and downright rude sitting next to you. It’s enough to drive anyone mad, especially in a cramped plane with almost no personal space.

But according to one of the flight attendants that have to deal with these passengers on a day-to-day basis, there are three things you should absolutely avoid doing on your air travels.

In fact, she claims that it should be ‘illegal’.

American air hostess Cher Killough has been in the role for five years and took to TikTok to share ‘things that should be illegal to do on a plane’.

She’s not the first flight attendant to voice their opinion to the public when it comes to onboard etiquette, either.

So, what should you be wary of exactly?

Strong smells

The two main causes of this are body odour or strong perfume, but either way, you should avoid inconveniencing others with them.

“I don’t care if it’s good or bad, no-one wants to smell whatever fragrance you decided to wear today,” Killough explained.

She added: “It’s already an environment where people are prone to getting nauseous, having an extra fragrance on top of that is just not a good mix.”

Of course, perfume is better than odour, so basically, wear deodorant and light perfume.

But what about the single worst thing you can do on a plane?

Manspreading

By far and away, the Dallas-based flight attendant said that this is the worst thing that you can do onboard, especially if you’re ‘manspreading when you’re in a middle seat’.

Killough explained: “Any type of seat should be unacceptable and I’ve been a passenger, I have had that numerous times where men will spread their knees all the way into my seat section, or the other person on the other side of me, and it’s just unacceptable.”

Additionally, she called out the guilty, saying that ‘it’s always the shortest ones that are doing it’ and that if she’s 5’8″ ‘a little 5’6″ man’ should also be able to squeeze into their seat.

Social media users agreed in the comments section, as one wrote: “When they man spread in the middle, I make myself as big as possible til they get the hint”

Another said: “If someone man spreads I just lean my legs against him. He’ll move and retract eventually.”

A third simply added: “Man spreading – please stop!!!”

It might be an epidemic.

Getting your toes out

The third thing that Willough urged people not to do is ‘have your bare toes out in the cabin’, joking that ‘you seriously deserve to go to jail’ if you do this.

“If you have your bare toes out when you go to the bathroom, I see this all the time and it should be against the law, but in general I don’t wanna see your toes at all,” she highlighted.

The flight attendant simply recommended that you wear shoes, or at least socks, at all times when you’re onboard, or you could even get pee on your feet when you use the toilet.

In all seriousness, which wrong ‘un is walking around the cabin with their bare feet touching the ground? The thought makes me shiver.

The football’s on, beer gardens are filling up and the office suddenly feels much quieter.

It’s holiday season lads, and either the whole of the group chat are jetting off or you’ve been left behind while your best mate goes away with their partner.

And before you finally board your flight and travel away, you might be taking note of flight attendant’s advice after one revealed there’s one ‘type’ of passenger they like the most.

Because who doesn’t want to be in their good books?

While one says they secretly memorise your face and another explains there’s only one way to ‘shoot your shot’ with the crew, another has revealed the three things you should never do if you want to stay safe on a plane.

The TUI flight attendant took to TikTok where she shares advice and insight into crew life as ‘mrsmiva’.

She advises her followers of ‘3 things you should never do on a plane’.

Wearing ‘shorts or a skirt’

The flight attendant explains: “You never know how clean it is where you’re going to sit.

“Also it can get very cold.” Tell me about it, I’ve shivered through my fair share of flights after dressing for the destination rather than to sit in the big cold box in the sky.

Never ‘get drunk on a plane’

I’m sure this one has got you rolling your eyes as you plan to neck back a couple of cans on the flight to Ibiza this year.

Miva explains that passengers who are ‘too drunk’ can be ‘ejected’ from their flight for safety reasons. So as always, it’s best to moderate those airport pints and pre-holiday tipples.

The importance on keeping hydrated

The flight attendant says ‘not drinking enough water’ is a bad idea, and quite rightly so.

“The dry air and low humidity on the plane can lead to increased fluid loss and dehydration,” Miva says.

So, make sure you’re drinking plenty of water before boarding and during your flight – buy a fresh bottle once you’re through security, or (great airport hack) take through an empty, reusable one and fill it up at the water stations for free.

Travellers thanked the attendant for her useful advice as one said they’ve got ‘dehydrated’ on flights before as another put: “Yes it’s so cold for me in the airplane.”

Wearing shorts on a plane? No thank you…

Next time you’re jetting off into the skies for your next holiday it’s a good idea to be wearing pants instead of shorts – even if you’ll be stepping off the flight and into swelteringly hot weather.

You might want to dress for the weather you’re going to be heading into instead of the cloudy conditions which typify the Great British summer, but be warned.

Flight attendant Tommy Cimato took to TikTok to warn of the terrible dangers of uncovered calves on board a plane.

Don't wear shorts.

TikTok/@tommycimato

It turns out you’d be better off just packing a pair of shorts and changing in the airport toilets or something.

According to Cimato, the one thing you want to really avoid on board your flight is shorts.

He said: “Don’t or try not to wear shorts when you’re on an airplane. It’s the same thing as the window, you never know how clean it’s gonna be, so if you have pants, you’re gonna have less germs.”

So if you don’t want your uncovered skin picking up germs, jeans might be a safer bet.

Reeling off a list of other plane tips, he added: “Do not ever touch the flush button with your bare hands. It’s honestly just super unsanitary and pretty gross, so when you flush, use a napkin or tissue that’s in the lavatory.

“Don’t forget to drink water. Stay hydrated. You wanna have about 16oz for every flight you go on, so keep that in mind.

“Do not fall asleep or lean your head on the window. You are not the only that has done that and you don’t know how many people or children have wiped their hands or other things all over the window.

“Don’t feel afraid to let a flight attendant know if you’re feeling sick. So if you need food, water, or an air sickness bag, please feel free to let us know.”

Basically what you should be hearing from all of this is to not touch anything as the entire plane is basically filthy – so perhaps for your next flight you could wear a Hazmat suit.

While we’re on the topic of air travel, another flight attendant shared their top tip for getting pampered while onboard.

Best to avoid shorts if you don't want to catch any germs.

Kat Kamalani (who is on TikTok as @katkamalani) often shares videos explaining what life as a flight attendant is like.

In a post, Kamalani said there’s one thing that will help you get treated well by cabin crew, saying in the caption: “Your flight will change DRAMATICALLY.”

In the video, Kamalani told viewers: “If you do this one simple thing on an aircraft, I promise you, you will get the royal treatment from the flight attendants.

“Being a flight attendant is exhausting. You’re always in different time zones, waking up crazy hours, and dealing with angry customers.

“So I promise you, the next time you fly, if you want special treatment from the flight attendants this is all you have to do.”

It turns out the secret is to bribe your flight attendant with a little gift to brighten up their day.
