We’ve been waiting all our lives for Disney to share this news.
On (Friday) Oct. 11, the company revealed the premiere date for the Freaky Friday sequel, Freakier Friday, starring Lindsay Lohan and Jamie Lee Curtis, writing on its social media pages, “TGIF. #FreakierFriday arrives in theaters August 8, 2025.”
The earthquaking, body-shifting announcement was made with a picture of Linsday and Jamie Lee, tapped into their characters Anna and Tess, recreating the moment they realized “we seemed to have switched bodies.”
Disney’s latest update comes three months after it was revealed that Chad Michael Murray would be reprising his role as Anna’s motorcycle riding, Britney Spears singing, crush, Jake (who’s Jake).
“Jake is back, baby,” Disney wrote on Instagram July 18. “The sequel of Freaky Friday is coming to theaters 2025.”
Rocking out alongside Jamie Lee, Lindsay and Chad will be OG stars Christina Vidal Mitchell and Haley Hudson—who will return as Anna’s besties and Pink Slip bandmates, Maddie and Peg.
And Tess’ husband Ryan (Mark Harmon), Anna’s teacher Mr. Bates (Stephen Tobolowsky) and Chinese restauranteurs Pei-Pei and her mom (played by Rosalind Chao and Lucille Soong).
Disney also teased one of Tess and Anna’s scenes from the film which shows Tess behind the wheel of a convertible flashing the peace sign while Anna rides shotgun. It’s worth mentioning, the mother-daughter duo each had on eccentric outfits.
Freakier Friday—which will be released 20 years after the original—promises a “multigenerational twist.” And while much isn’t known about the complete storyline, lightning (or an earthquake) will strike twice.
“The film picks up years after Tess (Curtis) and Anna (Lohan) endured an identity crisis,” read a June press release from Disney. “Anna now has a daughter of her own and a soon-to-be stepdaughter. As they navigate the myriad challenges that come when two families merge, Tess and Anna discover that lightning might indeed strike twice.”
According to Jamie, fans of the original are going to love the sequel.
“We just had a great shoot on [Freakier] Friday,” the Oscar winner told E! in an Sept 5. interview. “You guys are going to be very happy.”
