It’s possible that Ellen DeGeneres’ time in America has ended.
According to reports, the former talk show presenter and her spouse, actor Portia de Rossi, have fled the country and listed their mansion in Montecito, California, for sale.
According to sources who spoke to TMZ and The Wrap, the couple’s exit was directly caused by Vice President Kamala Harris’s unsuccessful attempt for the White House.
According to The Wrap, Degeneres relocated to the Cotswolds, a rural area of the United Kingdom.
In reference to the claims of a “toxic work environment“ that afflicted her daytime show, DeGeneres claimed in her 2024 Netflix special that she has been “kicked out of show business” for being “mean.” At the time, the comedian also referred to herself as “the most hated person in America.”
We’ve seen other well-known celebrities depart this nation before, including DeGeneres. Actress Eva Longoria, who was born in Texas, recently discussed her personal reasons for leaving California after living there for her “whole adult life.” Longoria claimed that “the vibe” in California had changed significantly since the 2010s and that she and her family now alternate between Mexico and Spain.
“And then Covid happened, and it pushed it over the edge,” she told Marie Claire for a cover story published last week. “Whether it’s the homelessness or the taxes, not that I want to shit on California—it just feels like this chapter in my life is done now.”
Longoria believes she made the right decision, as evidenced by the recent presidential election.
“I’m privileged,” the actor continued. “I get to escape and go somewhere. Most Americans aren’t so lucky. They’re going to be stuck in this dystopian country, and my anxiety and sadness is for them.”
Longoria and DeGeneres both openly backed Harris. When Harris was chosen to succeed Joe Biden, DeGeneres publicly supported her and gave to her campaign, according to TMZ.
