Ant ‘not happy’ and admits he was ‘unprofessional’ for getting annoyed with I’m A Celeb star live on air

The presenter was feeling frustrated at Dean McCullough’s poor performances in the trials

I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here co-host Ant McPartlin has revealed he wasn’t ‘happy’ with his ‘unprofessional’ behaviour during a recent Bushtucker trial.

During last night’s (21 November) trial ‘Lethal Lab’, radio presenter Dean McCullough suffered his latest trial failure – leaving the 49-year-old visibly frustrated by his behaviour.

32-year-old McCullough hasn’t had an easy start to his I’m A Celeb journey so far, previously failing to obtain any stars during his joint trial with podcaster GK Barry.

‘Lethal Lab’ saw McCullough build on his Bushtucker trial performance and obtain four stars for his campmates. He wasn’t, however, able to handle keeping his head inside a container filled with fish guts, and said the fateful words without even making it to the halfway point of the trial.

This decision frustrated McPartlin, who even went as far as grilling him over the decision to back out of the trial so suddenly.

After learning that he had quit over fish guts, a disappointed McCullough revealed that he may not have quit if he’d known what the substance was – after previously pleading with the hosts not to tell him anything about what was being added to the boxes.

Several viewers at home also noted the presenter appeared visibly irritated by McCullough’s behaviour, with one person writing on X:”Not Ant telling off Dean for doing s**te in the last 2 trials.”

“If y’all vote for Dean one more time I think Ant’s gonna quit the job,” a second joked.

However, it would seem the presenter is more disappointed in his own behaviour than by McCullough’s performance in the trials, confessing to Sam Thompson that he ‘wasn’t happy’ with his behaviour during ITV2 spin-off programme I’m A Celebrity: Unpacked.

“Oh god. I told you not to talk to me about it Sam,” McPartlin responded when the former Made in Chelsea cast member decided to broach the topic.

“My annoyance came across on screen and it was quite unprofessional and I’m not happy about it.”

However co-host Declan Donnelly was able to see the funnier side to the whole situation, joking: “I think you hid it quite well, Ant.”

McPartlin then explained the source of his frustration towards McCullough’s behaviour in the trials, telling Thompson and Joel Dommett: “You get to the point where you’re like ‘What are you doing?'”

Despite the frustration, the presenter added that he would focus on being ‘kinder’ to the radio presenter in future trials. That’s something he’ll have to put into practice pretty quickly, as McCullough will be joining McFly’s Danny Jones in the next trial ‘High Street Horrors’.

“I’m going to try good cop today,” he said.
