Scott Disick is facing backlash for an Instagram post alongside his daughter.
The 41-year-old American TV personality has had fans divided by one of his posts online, with many believing it was a clear sign of racism.
The post features his daughter, Penelope who he shares with ex-partner Kourtney Kardashian.
Disick and Kardashian had an on-and-off relationship between 2006 to 2015.
The pair have 3 children together, Mason, Penelope, and Reign.
Although the couple are no longer together, and Kardashian is now married to Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker, the exes are still in each other’s lives.
In an episode of Keeping Up with the Kardashians, the reality star spoke of her relationship with Disick saying: “Scott and I, we’re going to be in each other’s lives forever. We are soulmates, in a sense. No matter what, whether we’re ever together or not,”
Although their relationship was never always easy, with Disick allegedly cheating on Kardashian throughout their relationship, and having an addiction struggle,
The pair are now co-parenting their children.
The TV star told People: “I think Scott will always be family, and so we really try to have a good relationship for the kids, we do our best to make the kids the priority.”
Disick’s appearances throughout the years on Keeping Up with the Kardashians and now The Kardashians on Disney+ have certainly given him a large platform, with an Instagram following of over 29 million.
But some of his fans are not happy with an Instagram post of him and his daughter.
One fan wrote: “Wow and this is a prime example of how racism is taught. People aren’t born with it. Ignorance at its finest.”
“It’s a parent’s responsibility to teach a kid to do the right thing,” said another person.
A third user agreed: “All that wealth, you’d think some would go towards education on ignorance and cultural sensitivity.”
Racist stereotypes have been around for years, including people making fun of the East Asian eye shape.
In East Asian countries, the common eye feature is epicanthic folds, also known as monolid eyes, where the upper eyelid meets the inner corner of the eye.
One way people are racist towards these communities is by using their fingers to pull back their eyes, trying to mimic their features.
The ‘slant-eyes’ stereotype is a racist slur against East Asian people.
It originated in 19th-century Western propaganda when Asian immigrants were often depicted in drawings with yellow skin, buck teeth, and slit eyes, per Dicitionary.com.
In the Instagram post, Disick is sat with his daughter at a restaurant.
As Penelope and him pose for the snap, the 12-year-old pulls her eyelids up.
To make matters worse, they are eating at an Asian restaurant with chopsticks on the table as they smile for the photo.
Many people in the comments believed this was Penelope doing the Asian ‘slant-eyes’ slur because they were at an Asian restaurant.
One user said: “Why the F is his daughter doing that? Eating Asian food and being racist??”
However, some fans were quick to defend the photo saying: “You people are disgusting talking about a child being racist because she made a funny face?”
Another writes:” How is that racist? I see a little child making a silly face.”
“I’m Chinese. If you mock Asian eyes, you pull OUT not UP,” a third comments.
