Netflix renews The Night Agent for season 3 and reveals when season 2 will release

Netflix has announced that The Night Agent will be returning for a third season, while revealing when season two will premiere.

Season one of the hit-thriller sat at the top of the viewing charts on the streaming platform, and fans have long been awaiting the second season’s release, since the show debuted on Netflix in 2023.

Released in March last year, the action series often leaves viewers on the edge of your seats, as the first season sat atop the English TV list with over 168 million hours watched by subscribers just one week after its release.

The hit series is based on the bestselling novel of the same name, as the political thriller follows an FBI agent who works as a Night Action telephone operator at the White House.

He mans a phone that never rings, though one night it goes off, leading to a number of intense events and involving him in several twists and turns, revealing a government-wide conspiracy.

Gabriel Basso, who plays Agent Peter Sutherland in the series, is set to return, while the likes of Luciane Buchanan, Robert Patrick and Fola Evans-Akingbola are also reprising their roles as part of the main cast.

Season one had a respectable score of 74 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, as fans were hooked when the series dropped, and a similar reaction is expected when the second season drops – with fans just waiting on a date.

Finally, on Tuesday (8 October) night, the official Netflix UK & Ireland account took to X, announcing that the second season of Night Agent will come out in the winter of 2025, though no exact date was specified.

As well as this, it was announced that a third season was already confirmed.

A second season was announced shortly after the season one dropped on Netflix more than a year and a half ago, and hype already began to build.

Creator and show runner Shawn Ryan stated at the time: “The last week has been a whirlwind as we’ve finally been able to share The Night Agent with the world.

“To see the tremendous reaction to the show has been a great joy and is a credit to our cast, our writers, our directors, our crew and our partners at Sony Pictures Television and Netflix.

“We couldn’t be any prouder or more excited to get cracking on Season 2 to share the further adventures of Night Action with our newfound fans.”

Season two is said to be made up of 10 episodes, with there being ‘one big question’ that will be answered from the first series, according to Ryan.
